Launches Euro Message in 11 languages
The Minister for Finance, Mr. Charlie McCreevy TD, launched a euro
information leaflet for non-nationals living in Ireland. The leaflet, produced
by the Euro Changeover Board of Ireland (ECBI), has been prepared in 11
different languages so that people who may have difficulty with English can have
access to information on the euro changeover.
"It is important to give people
information in a language they understand to help them prepare for
the changeover to the euro. I welcome the Board's initiative in
preparing this information leaflet in so many languages", said
Mr. McCreevy.
The leaflet is available in Albanian,
Arabic, Chinese, Croat, Czech, French, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian,
Russian and Vietnamese.
The leaflets are being distributed through
a range of relevant organisations and bodies and are also available
from the ECBI at LoCall 1890 20 10 50 or www.euro.ie.
With effect from 1st January 2002:
Accounts in financial institutions will be
converted to euro free of
charge; Withdrawals from accounts will be in euro; ATMs will begin
dispensing euro notes; Wages, salaries, pensions and social welfare
payments will be in euro
