New EU Bioeconomy Strategy published

In November 2025, the EU Commission published a new Bioeconomy Strategy: ‘A Strategic Framework for a Competitive and Sustainable EU Bioeconomy’. It aims to foster a clean, competitive and resilient European economy reducing its dependency on fossil fuels.

Global Bioeconomy Summit 2026 confirmed for 20-21 October 2026 in the Convention Centre Dublin

The Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine, the Department of Climate, Energy, and the Environment and the International Advisory Council of the Global Bioeconomy (IACGB) today announced that the fifth Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS 2026) will take place in Dublin, Ireland on 20 and 21 October 2026 at the Convention Centre Dublin, during Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.

€9 million announced for Shared Island bioeconomy projects

Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, and Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland, Andrew Muir MLA, have announced €9 million in funding for two bioeconomy demonstration initiatives. Awards of €4.5 million each from the Shared Island Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative will support two bioeconomy projects with collaboration across the island of Ireland.

Department releases Bioeconomy in Action video series

To facilitate increased understanding and awareness of the bioeconomy in Ireland, the Department has commissioned a Bioeconomy in Action video series. This series features three unique case studies of the bioeconomy in action in Ireland, demonstrating how the bioeconomy is creating new value chains for farmers and agri-food businesses, empowering communities, and offering sustainable choices to consumers.
