Nomination and Appointment of Taoiseach Deputy Bertie Ahern was nominated by the Dáil to be the Taoiseach and appointed by the President on 6 June 2002. Nomination of Members of the Government The other members of the Government were nominated by the Taoiseach, approved by the Dáil, and appointed by the President on 6 June 2002. Appointment of Ministers of State The Taoiseach announced to the Dáil on 18 June 2002 that on 6 June 2002, the Government appointed Deputy Hanafin to be Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach with special responsibility as Government Chief Whip, and for the Information Society, and Deputy Roche to be Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and at the Department of Foreign Affairs, with special responsibility for European Affairs). The Taoiseach also announced to the Dáil on 18 June 2002, that, on 18 June, 2002, the Government appointed, with effect from 19 June, 2002, the other fifteen Ministers of State, and that the Government has also appointed Mary Hanafin to be Minister of State at the Department of Defence. Appointment of Attorney General The Taoiseach announced to the Dáil on 18 June 2002 that, on 6 June 2002, the President appointed Rory Brady, SC, as Attorney General.
