* The final sitting of the Senate of the Free State was held on 19 May 1936. The Senate was abolished on 29 May 1936. The election for the new Senate, set up in accordance with the 1937 Constitution, was held on 28 March 1938, and the first sitting was held on 27 April 1938.

Notes:

At the first meeting of the Dáil on 21 January 1919, Cathal Brugha was elected Ceann Comhairle for the day. On 22 January 1919, Count Plunkett took the Chair until the election of Sean T. O'Kelly as Speaker of the House (Ceann Comhairle).

At the first meeting of the Senate on 11 December 1922, Dr. George Sigerson, by resolution of the House, took the Chair for the sitting of that day.   He also took the Chair on 12 December 1922 until the election of the Cathaoirleach later that day.
