The primary objective of the Official Languages Act 2003 is to ensure better availability and a higher standard of public services through Irish. The Department of Health‘s language scheme covering the period 2015-2018 sets out the extent to which services are currently available through Irish, and identifies areas for future enhancement and is available on the Department’s website at The Language Scheme 2015-2018 / Scéim na Roinne Sláinte 2015-2018.
In accordance with Section 15 of the Official Languages Act 2003 the Department is now reviewing this scheme and preparing a new draft scheme for the period 2021-2023. The Department wishes to invite submissions in relation to the draft scheme from any interested parties. Submissions should be written and sent electronically to mary_o'reilly@health.gov.ie by the deadline of 5pm on Friday 11th December 2020.
Information in relation to the mandate and role/services of the Department is available on the Department’s website .
