Description:
The America Europe Connect 2 cable is a branch of a larger Transatlantic subsea cable system linking Europe with the USA. The proposed route of the America Europe Connect 2 cable will be contained exclusively within the marine environment; travelling east from the Irish Exclusive Economic Zone towards Clew Bay, south of Achill Island and north of Clare Island. In Clew Bay the proposed cable route will divert southward and terminate at an existing infrastructure located at Old Head Beach.
An application was originally submitted on 26 October 2018 and determined on 6 February 2020. Following an Order made in proceedings 2020/309 JR (2020 No.44 COM) the application has been remitted to the Minister for reconsideration.

National Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions Regulations published under the Health Act 1947 (Statutory Instrument No. 448 of 2020) have identified planning-related activity as within the schedule of what is considered to be ‘essential services’ in order to ensure the continued and safe operation of all aspects of the statutory planning system.
The Regulations permit a person to attend the offices of a planning authority or An Bord Pleanála to engage in a statutory planning process. There is no specified restriction on the distance that persons engaging in a statutory planning process may travel.

Submissions can be made to: Foreshore Unit, Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Newtown Road, Wexford, Co Wexford or email foreshore@housing.gov.ie .
Submissions received outside of the public consultation period cannot be considered.
