MPA LIFE IRELAND
Unfortunately, all workshops planned for 14, 15 and 19 October have now been CANCELLED. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
The MPA-LIFE-IRELAND project enables the development of a network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Irish maritime area to support the achievement and maintenance of Good Environmental Status in the marine environment and deliver on the target of 30% Marine Protected Area coverage by 2030. It does this by expanding and improving Ireland’s network of MPAs, ensuring the network is conservation-oriented, objective-driven, well managed and monitored, and that management measures to achieve MPA conservation objectives are enforced. The project uses a participatory Ecosystem-based Management (EBM) process involving the co-design, co-production and co-delivery of outcomes in close collaboration with marine stakeholders and citizens.
The MPA LIFE project is set to span nine years up to 2033 and is a partnership between the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, University College Dublin, University College Cork and the University of Galway.
The project is jointly funded by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment and the European Union's LIFE programme.
