Please see below examples of recent projects driven by the Mission Cities:

In February 2026, Cork City Council were awarded funding of €2 million through the European Investment Bank's, ELENA initiative (European Local Energy Assistance) to accelerate their retrofitting programme. This funding, which is provided over 3 years, will help provide technical assistance for the design and preparation of major retrofit projects to the council's public building portfolio and social housing stock.

In February 2026, Galway City Council announced that it secured €3.36 million under the European Urban Initiative (EUI) – Innovative Actions programme. It was awarded this funding through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to fund the WATERWAY project. This project will see three small-scale hydropower systems installed to serve as a source of clean energy. Community engagement and training in hydropower will be provided through workshops and dedicated training. The total project value is estimated to be €4.2 million and reflects Galway’s growing leadership in local climate innovation.

Grow College Green is a flagship climate project in Dublin City. The project, which aligns with Dublin City Council's Climate Action Plan, aims to prepare the College Green area for climate change and long-term resilience. This will be achieved through integrated water management and improved resilience to flooding. Biodiversity enhancements to the area will include 17,000 square metres of new public realm, 30% greening across the Dame Street area, and 75 new trees. In 2025, the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE) allocated €370,000 to Dublin City to support the costs of developing this project.
