MediBack, the free in-pharmacy service for the safe disposal of unused and expired medicines
Each year, medicines are thrown away in ways that can harm the environment and put public health and safety at risk. To address this, Ireland is introducing a national programme that helps people safely dispose of unused, leftover, or out-of-date medicines.
From August 2026, every community pharmacy in Ireland will offer the free MediBack service. This will enable people to safely dispose of medicines they no longer need or that have expired.
