Funding of €2.8m announced for Clare County Council

The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD, and the Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, Peter Burke TD, have announced the provision of €2.8 million in 2022 for Clare County Council. This is additional to €2.5 million allocated for 2021.
This allocation is to mitigate losses due reduced rate receipts from Moneypoint power station which, before its gradual wind down, represented approximately 25% of the rates income for Clare County Council.
Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Darragh O'Brien TD, said:
“The Government recognises the important work of the Local Authorities, and the sustained pressure they have been under due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Additional pressure has been felt in Clare due to the gradual decommissioning and loss of income from Moneypoint, the largest rate payer in the County.
Today I can confirm funding of €2.8m to Clare County Council in 2022 in recognition and support of these pressures. This funding is intended to mitigate the significant loss of rates income for the coming year.”
