Case Reports - District Court

The District Court hears family law applications relating to guardianship, custody of and access to children, maintenance, and domestic violence. These applications may arise as stand-alone proceedings or in connection with divorces or judicial separations granted by the Circuit Court.

Family law cases are generally heard on designated family law days, although in some locations they may be heard alongside other civil and criminal matters.

Case reports are grouped by case type to help readers navigate the family law system. Select a case type below to view individual reports.

Please note: Due to the nature of family law proceedings, some reports may cover more than one case. Case reports are categorised according to the principal application or issue before the court; however, other applications or legal issues may also arise in the same proceedings.

Please note: Child protection applications, where the Child and Family Agency/Tusla seeks care orders or supervision orders for children considered to be at risk, are reported in a separate project with its own website. These reports can be found at www.childlawproject.ie
