Protecting families

The government recognises the need to support and protect families and children.

Under the Programme for Government two priorities were named:

  • to reduce poverty levels by improving the take-home pay of families on low incomes
  • to increase in-work support for families on low incomes to allow families to remain in work, to reward those moving form welfare to work and prevent families from becoming at risk of poverty

To achieve these two aims, the following services are available:

Back to Work Family Dividend

One-Parent Family Payment

Jobseeker's Transitional Payment

Child Benefit

Working Family Payment (WFP)

Increase for a Qualified Child
