About Shared Island Dialogue

Inclusive dialogue with all communities and political traditions is at the heart of the Government’s Shared Island Initiative. The Shared Island Dialogue programme has created opportunities for people from different backgrounds, perspectives and regions to come together, share ideas and shape discussions about a shared future. This includes:

  • Shared Island Forum (2021–present)

An annual event bringing together Shared Island partners and political, civic, community and economic stakeholders to reflect on the initiative and priorities for the year ahead.

  • Shared Island Dialogue Series (2021–2024)

16 themed events brought together more than 4,000 participants from communities, traditions and regions across the island to discuss how we can work together to address common challenges, and take up shared opportunities for the whole island.

  • Shared Island Youth Forum (2023–2024)

80 young people from diverse backgrounds North and South came together and deliberated to develop a statement of their vision and values for a shared future.

  • Future Takes Series (2024)

A public conversation with voices from across the island exploring the question: For a more reconciled island of Ireland, however it is constituted, what should we give and what could we gain in the years ahead?

  • Shared Home Place (2026-2030)

This is a participative initiative, in the spirit of the Good Friday Agreement, that invites people across the island - and beyond - to explore, through a heritage and culture lens, the question: What does a Shared Home Place mean to you - past, present, and future?
