Description:
GKinetic Ltd. is an Irish developer of a submerged tidal energy device composed of twin, vertical-axis turbines mounted either side of a buoyant, teardrop vessel. The vessel has a shaped bluff body which is moored to the seabed. The technology exploits the natural phenomena that occurs when fluid accelerates around and outside an obstacle. This allows for significant energy to be generated in low flows. The device is scalable up to 1 MW and can be deployed in arrays to maximise power generation.
The test devices proposed for deployment off the pier at Inishmurry (Cahiracon, Co Clare) are 60kW devices. The shape of the vessel increases the speed of water into the turbines. The combination of the accelerated flow along with our patented Blade Pitch Control System results in higher power outputs. There are no major civil works required and the devices can be simply anchored in the channel. The concept has undergone staged development, in-time with industry best practice.

A public consultation was held on this application from Friday, 15 May 2020 to Tuesday, 22 June 2020.
As the eight appendices to the Natura Impact Statement were inadvertently not published online during the consultation period, it was deemed necessary to hold a further period of public consultation. The second consultation period ran from Friday, 27 August 2021 to Monday, 27 September 2021.

Submissions or observations regarding the additional information now provided for consultation may be made, giving reasons, between 27 August 2021 and 27 September 2021 (quoting ref: FS007081) to the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Foreshore Section, Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Newtown Road, Wexford, Co. Wexford or foreshore@housing.gov.ie .
The closing date for submissions is close of business (17.30) on 27 September 2021.
Submissions received outside of the public consultation period cannot be considered.
All objections and representations received will be forwarded to the applicant for comment prior to any decision being made in the matter. Material upon which the Minster shall determine this application may be published on the Department’s website. The Department wishes to draw attention to its policy on defamatory material that may be contained in submissions it receives.
