Below are three user stories, each accompanied by a video demonstration. The videos illustrate how secure, privacy-focused age and identity verification can operate smoothly in real-world situations using QR codes across two devices. The pilot app also supports use on a single device.

Secure online registration

This scenario shows how the Government Digital Wallet can replace manual document uploads when opening an account.

Mary visits a website and chooses to verify her identity using the app. Instead of uploading documents or entering details manually, she securely shares verified information, and the application form is auto-populated.

The service clearly states what information is requested: Mary’s full name, date of birth and PPSN. This request appears in her app, allowing her to review it before giving consent. Nothing is shared without her approval.

Secure online verification

This scenario shows how someone can use the Government Digital Wallet can verify, online, if someone is over 18, without sharing any of their personal details.

Alex uses her Government Digital Wallet to confirm her age on an online service. The process is quick, secure and privacy-preserving: her name, date of birth and address are never shared.

Before the check begins, Alex sees a consent notice explaining exactly what information will be shared. She remains in control throughout and can choose whether to proceed.

Secure in-person verification

This scenario shows how the Government Digital Wallet works for face-to-face age checks, such as at a cinema.

Declan, a staff member, starts the age check on his device. Kate scans a QR code using her app and shares confirmation that she is over 18, along with a photo for visual comparison.

With her consent, only this limited information is shared: no name, date of birth or address. Declan compares the photo on screen with the person in front of him.
