On the nomination of the Optical Registration Board, the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has re-appointed/appointed the following as professional members of the Health and Social Care Professionals Council.
Re-appointment from 15 June 2019 to 10 February 2023
Mr Owen Blee is a Dispensing and Contact Lens Practitioner with qualifications in accounting and finance, with over twenty years’ experience in supply chain and service delivery optics.
Since 2005 he has worked with the largest provider of Ophthalmic care in Ireland in various clinical and leadership roles and from 2012 to present, he has served as an Executive Member for FODO (Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians Ireland).
In 2014 Owen was appointed to the interim Optical Registration Board, moving to the Optical Registration Board in 2015 and subsequently was first appointed to the Health and Social Care Professionals Council in 2018.
Owen’s interests include promotion of eye health awareness to the public through national campaigns, dispensing, contact lenses, CPD and the education and training of Dispensing Opticians.

Mr Weldon is an optometrist serving on the Optical Registration Board at CORU. He is also liaison person to the CORU Council.
Through previous roles with the Fitness to Practice Health Committee, and as Manager of the Professional Qualification Examinations for Optometrists he is critically aware of standard setting in relation to Fitness to Practise and eligibility of those wishing to register and practice as Optometrists in Ireland.
Mr Weldon was recently awarded Fellowship of the Association of Optometrists Ireland for services to the Profession.
