Following a Public Appointments Service campaign, the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD has appointed John McGowan and Michael Shelly to the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board. These appointments are for the period from 20 February 2020 to 19 February 2025.
Mr John McGowan
John McGowan is a consultant and director with experience in delivering major capital projects worldwide. In the late eighties, John acted as the Jacobs project director on the Intel Fab10 project in Leixlip.
Subsequently recruited by Intel, John worked in variety of roles such as campus facilities manager, VP (TMG) and General Manager of the Leixlip campus, and subsequently Director of Corporate Services. As Director of Corporate Services, John had responsibility for delivery of all Intel major capital projects worldwide, with an annual spend of greater than $2 billion.
Additional experience includes roles such as Managing Director at Michael McNamara Construction and as a consultant and non-executive director in various companies, including DPS Engineering, focusing initially on rightsizing in a diminished market for construction, and more recently on diversification of markets, taking advantage of the large upswing in MNC capital investment in the past four years.
John is a Chartered Engineer, a former President of Engineers Ireland (‘06/’07) and of the Irish Academy of Engineering (‘14/’15).
Mr Michael Shelly
Michael Shelly is a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Director with 45 years’ experience in the construction Industry in Ireland and internationally. Michael qualified as an engineer from NUIG and then completed a M.Sc. in Engineering Structures in Trinity College. He spent most of his career with PM Group; the Irish based international Engineering and project management consultants.
He has worked as a project manager and project director on a variety of projects across many sectors and geographies. He has worked in many parts of the world and played a key role in the international development of PM Group. Michael was an Executive Director of PM Group for 18 years. He is also currently serving as Chairman of Tobin Consulting Engineers.
