Following a Public Appointment Service (PAS) advertising campaign, the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has nominated Mr Paul O’Faherty as Chair Designate of the VHI.
As is normal practice with such proposed appointments to State Boards, the Minister will notify the Chair of the Joint Committee on Health of his intention to appoint Mr Paul O’Faherty as Chair. It is open to the Committee (when established) to invite the Chair Designate in to brief them and to thereafter submit its views on the proposed appointment to the Minister for his consideration, prior to the Minister making the formal appointment.
Paul O’Faherty is an actuary and is a non-executive director of a number of companies in the financial services and investment areas, including Vhi since 2014. Until 2013 he was Chief Executive of Mercer Ireland and Chairman of Marsh McLennan Companies in Ireland. In his career as a consultant in Mercer, he advised the Department of Health for many years on health insurance matters. He is a Fellow and a past President of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. He is also a past Chairman of the Irish Association of Pension Funds.
