The Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, today invited applications from suitably-qualified and experienced people, to fill a vacancy on the board of the National College of Art and Design (NCAD). The term of office for the position will be for three years.
Minister Harris said:
"I invite those who are interested in being part of shaping the future of a prominent art and design college such as NCAD, and who feel they have the relevant experience and knowledge, to submit their expression of interest for this position".

The process of filling this vacancy on the board (An Bord) of the NCAD is managed by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
Members of An Bord are not remunerated. Travel and subsistence allowances will be paid in respect of journeys undertaken to attend meetings of the board or to transact its business.
An Bord consists of eleven members, one of whom is a chairperson appointed by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, for a period of up to three years. There are also six independent non-executive directors, two staff representatives, two student representatives and the director, who is an ex officio member of An Bord. Individual members may be asked to serve a second or subsequent term if approved by the minister.
NCAD was established in 1971 and is governed by a board appointed by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. The college has four faculties:
• Design
• Education
• Fine Art
• Visual Culture
NCAD is based on the site of the Powers Whiskey Distillery in the heart of the Liberties in Dublin’s city centre, and has been a recognised College of UCD since 2011.
The functions of An Bord are prescribed under Section 5 of the National College of Art and Design Act, 1971.
An Bord is assisted in carrying out its responsibilities by an Audit and Risk Committee. This committee comprises three independent non-executive board members and an external financial expert.
