Financial Services Division with responsibility for Climate and Legal Unit

The Financial Services Division is responsible for the development of domestic and EU/International policy and legislation in relation to the financial services sector (with the exception of the banking sector).

The primary functions relate to:

The division's Insurance Policy Unit advises and prepares proposals for senior management of the Department, the Minister and the Government, for an effective policy and legislative framework for insurance regulation and development of the insurance sector.

The Markets and Securities Unit seeks to best represent Ireland’s interests during EU negotiations to ensure that the legislative framework in place for financial markets.

The role of the Funds section is to:

monitor and engage in the EU legislative process as it relates to investment fund structures
development primary and secondary domestic legislation
engage with all of the relevant stakeholders in the investment funds regulatory sphere including the European Institutions, other Government Departments, the Central Bank and relevant Industry representative bodies

The division also manages the transposition of EU directives and Climate Change/Climate Finance.

The Legal Unit is responsible for providing legal advisory services for the Department through the Head of Legal.

This work is carried out in a manner consistent with EU financial services initiatives which in turn adequately encompass Irish national interests.
