The Human Resources Unit is responsible for managing the human resources function for the department’s administrative staff, the staff of the Inspectorate, the National Educational Psychological Service and other professional/technical staff working in the department, based in our three main offices and other local and regional office locations.
Queries in relation to the terms and conditions of employment of teachers and Special Needs Assistants in primary and post-primary schools are dealt with by Teacher and SNAs Terms and Conditions Unit

We endeavour to support the protection of frontline services in education and seek efficiencies in work practices and processes, in line with the Public Service Stability Agreement 2018-2020 and the overall Government Reform Agenda for the civil service.
We ensure a stable industrial relations environment through the effective management of employee relations.
We provide an Employee Assistance Service and a Disability Liaison Officer service to staff of the department.
We manage and organise the recruitment, appointment and deployment of the approved level of staffing resources for the department.
We engage in workforce planning and shared services programmes so as to manage staffing levels effectively and to meet the changing needs of the organisation in a cost efficient manner.
