Regulation of buses, coaches and large public service vehicles in Ireland

Large Public Service Vehicles include vehicles with capacity to carry more than eight passengers for reward - normally buses and coaches.

This means that you pay a fare to travel on the vehicles.

The department has responsibility for the sector including the:

licensing framework for Large Public Service Vehicles which is administered by An Garda Síochána
licensing framework for Road Passenger Transport Operators Licences which is administered by the Road Transport Operator Licensing Division
the operation of public bus services which is administered by the National Transport Authority
