Minister O'Donovan announces ‘Greening’ of Heritage Sites in County Limerick as part of the 2021 National St Patrick’s Festival

Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Mr. Patrick O’Donovan TD, today announced details of the Greening of Heritage Sites in County Limerick as part of the 2021 St. Patrick’s Festival.

This year the OPW has included three key heritage sites in Co. Limerick to its list of properties that participate in the annual Greening for St. Patrick's Festival. Askeaton Priory, Desmond Castle, Adare and Desmond Castle, Newcastle West will all be illuminated for the duration of the festival, from 12 -17 March 2021, by using green filters, specialist lamps and existing lighting control systems. The OPW will continue to look at expanding the list of properties that participate in the Greening programme in the coming years.

The Minister said

“I am delighted that the above three properties are being added to the existing iconic sites worldwide that are illuminated to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I would encourage all to participate in the St. Patrick’s Festival events and to celebrate what we, as a nation, have to offer as represented by our world-renowned Heritage sites and State buildings”.
