Jack Chambers, Minister of State for the Gaeltacht and Sport, launched the Daingean Uí Chúis Language Plan today (29 April) at an event organised in An Díseart in Daingean Uí Chúis as part of Féile na Bealtaine.
Annual funding of €80,000 is being provided for the implementation of the plan over a 7 year period, which means that a total budget of €560,000 will be available for the implementation of the language plan.
Minister of State Chambers said:
"It is both remarkable and a cause for celebration that the Daingean Uí Chúis language plan is being launched today as part of Féile na Bealtaine. I congratulate everyone - from the town community, the steering committee and the lead organisation who worked on the plan and the Language Planning Officer, Cristín de Mórdha, who is continuously working to implement the plan. As with all the language plans already being implemented, the people of Daingean Uí Chúis are being given the opportunity to choose their own priorities under the plan and to participate in the implementation of the plan on a partnership basis.”
To further support the language planning process as it relates specifically to the West Kerry Gaeltacht, Minister of State Chambers also announced that he has approved grants totalling up to €54,578 for two projects under his Department’s Community and Language Supports Programme - an additional €39,818 for CLG na Gaeltachta for works on the playing field in Gallarús and €14,760 for Coiste Forbartha Fhionn Trá to enable them to appoint consultants for the intended refurbishment work on the community hall in the area.
While touring the town, the Minister of State also visited Teach Damhsa and Drioglann Dhaingean Uí Chúis which operate with the assistance of Údarás na Gaeltachta.
