Minister McGrath publishes the third tranche of the Spending Review Papers for 2022

The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Michael McGrath, has today (Friday 9 December) published the next tranche of papers as part of the 2022 Spending Review process.
The spending review is a key platform for generating evidence for policy making across the Civil Service. Supported by the Irish Government Economic and Evaluation Service (IGEES), the process has become a focal point for analysis across government departments.
Welcoming these reviews, Minister McGrath stated:
"The Spending Review process is a crucial part of the ongoing assessment of the impact and effectiveness of investment in public programmes and services. I welcome today's publication of 5 papers, which brings the number of papers published this year up to 12 spending reviews.
"The papers published today cover a diverse range of expenditure areas including agriculture, foreign affairs, higher education and rural and community development and highlight the range of analysis being undertaken at present. The research provides valuable insights which will inform ongoing policy development across the public service."
A number of additional spending reviews are planned for publication in the coming weeks. The papers published today, in addition to all spending review papers published since 2017 are available on the Spending Review website.

Review of the Beef Data Genomics Programme 2015 - 2021
This paper provides and update on a 2019 Spending Review of the Beef Data Genomics Programme - with analysis of trends in Key Performance Indicators since 2015 to evaluate whether the scheme has continued to improve the genetic merit of the national beef herd and lower the intensity of Greenhouse Gas emissions of beef output, as well as projecting potential longer-term effects.
