The Office of Government Procurement (OGP) is delighted to have been shortlisted for 8 different awards at the National Procurement Awards 2022. The submissions shortlisted cover a range of citizen-focused projects, including:
National Patient Advocacy Service - Office of Government Procurement and the Department of Health
The OGP worked with the Department of Health to secure a bespoke contract for the next iteration of the Patient Advocacy Service (PAS). PAS provides a free and independent national service to help patients to make a formal complaint, regarding the care they have received. This new version of PAS includes advocacy in private nursing homes with plans to expand to mental health services during the lifetime of the contract.
New Passport Processing System - Office of Government Procurement and the Department of Foreign Affairs
The OGP and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) worked together to secure a new passport processing system for the State in September 2021. The procurement process is complete and the design phase is underway, but the new system is not yet operational.
It will replace a system that is 20 years old and was also necessary due to the huge growth in demand for passports. This new, modern service is fast and efficient, and can deal with increased application volumes, while maintaining the high standards of security that are a hallmark of the Irish Passport.
Technical Services Framework for Open Data and Data Management - Office of Government Procurement and DPER’s Open Data Unit
A national Open Data Strategy for 2017 - 2022 was published in 2017. Open data is data that anyone can access, use and share, for example, real-time passenger information that allows members of the public to plan public transport journeys. The Open Data Strategy’s core objective is to make high value Government data publicly available and freely reusable. To facilitate this, the OGP and the Open Data Unit established frameworks for open data training and data management in January 2022. This project will drive digitalisation and data sharing across the public sector, bringing benefits for the public, business and the public sector.
Minister of State with responsibility for Public Procurement, Ossian Smyth, welcomed the good news, saying:
“These nominations highlight the many important projects for the State that the OGP is involved in and the breadth of the work that the organisation undertakes. I have every confidence in the OGP’s work and wish them all the best at the ceremony in September.”
Chief Procurement Officer for the State and CEO of the OGP Paul Quinn said:
“I’m delighted to congratulate the nominated teams on their success in being shortlisted. The projects involved offer obvious benefits for the State, and it is wonderful to see that the hard work of the OGP is recognised so strongly and has resulted in a sweep of the categories.
"The shortlisted projects also highlight the power and importance of collaboration between the OGP and other government departments and agencies. We look forward to engaging in similar collaborative projects in the future.
"The very best of luck to all of the teams nominated.”
