The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Michael McGrath TD, today, Tuesday 24 August, following Cabinet approval, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. David Moloney as Secretary General of the Department (DPER). Mr. Moloney’s appointment was approved by Cabinet this afternoon at an incorporeal meeting.
David Moloney has been acting Secretary General of DPER since January this year. He is head of the Labour Market and Enterprise Division of the Department, with responsibility for various expenditure areas including Social Protection, Housing, Enterprise and Agriculture and for the Irish Government Economic and Evaluation Service (IGEES).
Over the course of his career in the Civil Service, David has also served in the Department of the Taoiseach, the Department of Finance and the Department of Health.
Minister McGrath said:
"I am delighted to have received government approval today for the appointment of David Moloney to the role of Secretary General of my department. David brings a wealth of experience to this position and I look forward to working closely with him over the period ahead. Preparing for Budget 2022, which is just seven weeks away, will be among the immediate priorities that he will be focussed on.
“My department has played a leading role in ensuring that extensive resources have been provided to sustain public services through COVID-19 and to support the incomes of households and businesses through an extraordinary time in our history. As Secretary General of DPER, David will lead an outstanding team of dedicated public servants who will contribute to building a strong economic recovery, and a fair society, and to supporting the work across government in tackling the great challenges of our time including housing and climate action.”
Mr. Moloney was appointed following an open competition run by the Public Appointments Service and the Top Level Appointments Committee.
Mr. Moloney will take up his position as Secretary General of DPER, commencing immediately.
