The tradition of probation is steeped in social work. Probation Officers use their social work training, knowledge and skills to support people to change the behaviours that lead to reoffending. Probation work is grounded in the most up to date knowledge and research on what works in reducing reoffending amongst the individuals that are referred to the Probation Service.
