The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) invites eligible Irish Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) to submit joint research proposals under the “EJP SOIL International Call on managing and mapping agricultural soils for enhancing soil functions and services”
The overall objective of this call is to foster farm management practices, which contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation. To achieve this aim, applicants seeking grant-aid from DAFM can apply for funding under any of the scientific topic areas which include:
• Topic A: Soil restoration practices and management for alleviating land degradation, supporting agro-ecosystem function and maintaining soil organic carbon stocks.
• Topic B: Managing soils in the context of climate change: understanding impacts on C, N and P cycling and greenhouse gas emissions and removals, using data derived from LTEs and benchmark farms.
• Topic C: Research and development of innovative methods and sensing technologies to provide an integrated monitoring and mapping of farm management practices taking also into account physical attributes and vegetation characteristics relevant to SOC sequestration, soil health and degradation.
When considering applications to this call, DAFM strongly recommend that proposals reflect and/or incorporate national research priorities within the context of soil health with a specific emphasis on topics B and C of the Call. Further information is contained in the “Additional Information” section, point 3 of the National Annex for Ireland in the central Call Documentation.
This is a single stage competitive submission process, with pre-registration of proposals.
The deadline for the pre-registration of proposals is 20th June 2022 (14:00 CEST).
The deadline for the submission of proposals is 14th September 2022 (14:00 CEST).
