National Risk Assessment for Ireland 2017

The Minister with responsibility for Defence, as Chair of the Government Task Force on Emergency Planning (GTF), submitted the National Risk Assessment (NRA) for Ireland 2017 to Government on 21 November 2017. This NRA had been endorsed by the Government Task Force on Emergency Planning on 8th March 2017 and has now been forwarded to the European Commission to continue the deliberative process at an EU and National level under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. This NRA contributes to the development of an overview of the risks the EU may face in the future, and in the development of both EU and National Risk Matrices and Risk Registers.
The purpose of the NRA for Ireland 2017 is to identify hazards facing the State across a broad range of emergencies, to assess the likelihood and impact of these hazards and to inform actions at national level aimed at mitigating such risks, including the allocation of resources. The NRA for Ireland 2017 was produced by the GTF and is a key part of the five stage emergency management approach used in emergency management in this State. This NRA for Ireland 2017 replaces the previous National Risk Assessment for Ireland 2012, published in 2013.
