A cross border or frontier worker is defined as any employed or self-employed person who works in one jurisdiction and lives in another to which he or she returns as a rule daily or at least once a week.
Please note:
If a frontier worker is made wholly/fully unemployed they should claim unemployment benefits from the country where they are resident.
A cross border worker who had been working in Northern Ireland but who lives in Ireland can claim for COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment
A frontier worker who lives in Northern Ireland should visit COVID-19 Cross Border Worker to see what supports they may be eligible for.
The COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment for workers who have been made unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic is not available to those resident in Northern Ireland.
