Science Week 2022 will run from 13 – 20 November and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine will host a series of webinars over the course of the week highlighting some important research that it is funding. The flyer attached contains the registration links to these webinars.
On Monday 14 , the project team leading ‘SMARTSWARD’ will present their research findings comparing multispecies swards containing grasses, legumes and forage herbs to perennial ryegrass monocultures and perennial ryegrass and white clover swards, in terms of their production potential, impacts on product (meat and milk) quantity and quality, fertiliser inputs, and associated methane and nitrogen emissions.
‘SMARTSWARD’, Assessing the use of multispecies swards: the multiple benefits for sustainable pasture-based farming’
Public Webinar Monday 14 November 9:30am – 10:15am
On Tuesday 15 , researchers from four European climate mitigation projects, co-funded by DAFM, will present their findings, including:
• METHLAB - implementing the use of lactic acid bacteria as an approach to reduce methane emissions from ruminant livestock;
• ‘MAGGE-pH’ - mitigating agricultural greenhouse gas emissions by improved pH management of soils;
• ‘GHG-Manage’ - the emission characteristics and surface-related warming effects of relevant landscape types to examine the optimum configuration of land uses and management interventions for emission reduction;
• and ‘RumenPredict’ - using different livestock and environmental variables to predict the environmental output of livestock and suggest relevant mitigation strategies
International Research Collaboration: Strengthening the monitoring and mitigation of greenhouse gases from agriculture through Ireland’s participation in the European Research Area Network, “ERAGAS”.
Public Webinar Tuesday 15 November 9:30am – 10:45am
On Friday 18 , researchers leading two dietary research projects funded by DAFM will present their findings, including:
• The National Adult Food Consumption Survey - a nationally representative database of food consumption in adults in Ireland
• Food Based Dietary Guidelines for Sustainable and Healthy Eating - developing food-based dietary guidelines for healthy and sustainable lifestyles
‘‘Transitioning towards sustainable and healthy eating’’.
Public Webinar Friday 18 November 11:30 – 12.30
The results of the DAFM National and International Competitive Research Funding Programme for the years 2010-2021 are made available for the benefit of the agri-food and forestry sectors, the consumer and policymakers.
The dashboard shows the funding made available for the Food Institutional Research Measure (FIRM), Research Stimulus Fund (RSF) and Programme of Competitive Forest Research for Development (CoFoRD) research funding programmes and can be filtered by funding programme, thematic research, gender and a summary of the successful research projects.
