At a policy level, planning means ensuring that the right development takes place in the right locations and at the right time. Our planning system provides the social, economic and physical infrastructure necessary to meet the needs of our people and in a way that protects the many qualities of our natural and built environment. This system guides Ireland’s planning authorities, who in turn apply these policies in assessing individual applications. The range of laws, guidelines and processes which underpin Irish planning can be summed up as follows:-
Ireland’s planning processes – planning applications, appeals, enforcement, exemptions etc.
Ireland’s planning structures – national policies and guidelines, regional planning, development plans etc.
