The department is committed to protecting the rights and privacy of individuals in accordance with both European Union and Irish data protection legislation. The department needs to lawfully and fairly process personal data about employees, customers, suppliers and other individuals in order to achieve its mission and functions. The data protection legislation confers rights on individuals as well as responsibilities on those persons processing personal data.

Under the GDPR, anyone whose personal data we hold, can submit a Data Subject Access Request (SAR). SARs can be submitted by phone, on twitter, by email or by post.

The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications operates Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems on its premises, for example at its Dublin offices on Adelaide Road and Beggar’s Bush.
There are data protection and privacy implications in relation to the use of CCTV systems.
In our CCTV Privacy Notice, we have set out how we will manage our CCTV system and the standards that will apply in respect of the data we capture, including the rights of individuals captured by this system.
