Exporting Meat, Meat Products and Animal By-products

From 31 January 2024, consignments of meat & meat products exported to Great Britain (GB) must be pre-notified to GB authorities by using IPAFFs. This pre-notification must be made by the GB based importer.
From 31 January 2024, consignments of meat, meat products and animal by-products exported to Great Britain (GB) may require an Export Health Certificate (EHC) depending on its risk categorisation. The goods will be subject to identity and physical checks at Border Control Posts (BCPs). For goods from Ireland this will not commence before 31 October 2024.
- Exporting businesses must ensure that they are registered on TRACES and are listed on the “approved list of establishments allowed to export to the UK” and to apply to the Department for an Export Health Certificate.
- The GB-based importer will need to register with, and submit advance notification of the import to IPAFFS
- The exporter must make the application for an EHC in TRACES and alert their relevant Regional Veterinary Office (RVO) of the upcoming export via email. The exporter will insert all of the consignment details on TRACES .
- Staff in the relevant Veterinary Office will review the application and issue the EHC if requirements are met.
- The EHC is generated, signed, and stamped by the certifying Official Veterinarian (OV). The eCertificate will then be available to download on Traces by the exporter.
- The Irish exporter must provide the original downloaded eCertficate to the GB importer. This eCertificate must uploaded onto IPAFFS before the consignment arrives in GB.
- GB import documentary checks will occur remotely, with identity and physical checks undertaken at the BCP on a risk basis. For goods from Ireland this will not commence before 31 October 2024.
- Both the exporter and importer must also comply with Customs requirements. Please see here for details – Revenue - HMRC .

Chilled minced meat and meat preparations can continue to be exported to Great Britain from 31 January 2024 provided that they are accompanied by an EHC as they are now classed as medium risk.
• chilled minced meat (beef, pork, lamb, mutton and goat)
• chilled and frozen minced poultry meat
• mechanical separated meat from porcine, poultry and ratite or game birds
• chilled meat preparations
