The promotion of wellbeing is central to the Department of Education mission to enable children and young people to achieve their full potential. Promoting the wellbeing of our children and young people is a shared community responsibility and is everybody’s business. This site provides access to a wide range of wellbeing information and supports for schools, students and parents.
The Wellbeing Policy Statement and Framework for Practice was first published in 2018 and refreshed in 2019. It provided a definition of wellbeing, and an overarching structure encompassing the existing, ongoing and developing work in the area of wellbeing in education. Schools are asked to include wellbeing promotion as a focus for their School Self Evaluation (SSE) . This should involve the development, implementation and review of wellbeing promotion in their schools, which includes tracking impact.

The Catalogue of Resources provides a non-exhaustive list of documents and resources that are provided by the Department of Education (DE), its agencies, support services, other Government Departments and their agencies and by the Health Service Executive (HSE) to assist the promotion of wellbeing across school communities.
Primary CPD Directory
There are many professional learning opportunities available to support teachers and school leaders to engage with aspects of wellbeing. This document provides an overview of the CPD supports provided by the Department of Education (DE), its agencies, support services, other Government Departments and their agencies and includes information on how to access these supports.

The Centre for School Leadership was established in September 2014 on a partnership basis between IPPN/NAPD and the Department of Education. The CSL’s responsibility extends across the continuum of leadership development commencing with pre appointment training through to induction of newly appointed principals to continuous professional development throughout the leader’s career. The Centre also advises the Department on policy in this area.
The Education Support Centres in Ireland (ESCI) is the umbrella organisation for the National Network of Teacher/Education (Support) Centres, which comprises 21 Full-time and 9 Part-time Education Centres. It represents the interest of the Network as a whole including Management, Directors and Staff.
The HSE Health and Wellbeing Team supports teachers to promote wellbeing, physical activity and healthy eating in school.
This guidance has been developed by NEPS and is intended to be used by school communities to support the wellbeing of the newly arrived Ukrainian children to our schools.
