A Supplementary Welfare Allowance supplement may be paid to assist you meet ongoing additional expenses which a person could not reasonably be expected to meet out of their weekly income.
Eligible people would normally be in receipt of a social welfare or Health Service Executive (HSE) payment. However, there is no automatic entitlement to such payments.
A supplement under the SWA scheme may be payable at the discretion of the department’s representative taking into account the requirements of the legislation and all the relevant circumstances of the case.
