Tánaiste welcomes S&P’s upgrade of Ireland’s credit rating to AA+

The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris has welcomed the S&P rating agency’s upgrade of Ireland’s long-term sovereign credit rating from AA to AA+, with a stable outlook.
The upgrade reflects S&P’s assessment that Ireland’s strong economy, considerable fiscal buffers and record of sound fiscal management will help to mitigate the impact of external shocks.
The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris T.D. said:
“I welcome the announcement by S&P of the upgrade in our credit rating from AA to AA+. Ireland enjoys a rating of at least ‘AA’ from all major credits ratings agencies.
This is a reflection of the fundamental strength of our economy and of Government’s proven record of careful management of our public finances. This means that we are approaching a period of unprecedented global uncertainty from a position of considerable strength.
Today’s ratings upgrade underscores the importance of continuing to conduct overall budgetary policy in a manner that is balanced and sustainable over the medium-term, while still responding as appropriate and necessary to the challenges of today.”
