Abbie Cashman is 23 and is currently a masters student in Planning and Sustainable Development at University College Cork.
Originally from rural East Clare, her interest in planning began in her undergraduate in UCC, where she completed a BA in Geography and Politics. She received the UCC Geography Dissertation Award 2025 for her research in the history of Farm Field Names, discovering the stories behind rural place-naming.
Following a geography research trip in Italy, she realised her passion for urban and town planning. Coming from a small village, she was interested in community development, and how planning can help communities thrive in a sustainable, equitable and well-designed way.
Along with an interest in travelling, she could now not look at any place the same!
Apart from her education, she’s interested in music and sport. Attending every match, concert and festival she can!
