Petra O'Flaherty

Petra O’ Flaherty is a 25-year-old living in west Wicklow. She is named after Petra in Jordan-which is one of the seven wonders of the world.

She is currently in phase six of her seven phase apprenticeship. Petra is an eight-generation stonemason and stone cutter and absolutely loves her job. She is the first female stonemason that has been registered with SOLAS in 30 years.

She grew up going to jobs with her father but her interest didn’t peak until her brother was cutting stones for their workshop. Petra loves old buildings and looking at hand carving in old graveyards and even has a cat named Micca after the quarts in granite.

Apart from stone she loves music, especially Damien Dempsey. She was a part of the building heroes campaign last year and is looking forward to where this next year takes them.
