The European University Institute is now taking applications for funded PhD programmes in:
- Law
- Economics
- History and Civilisation
- Political and Social Sciences
at its campus in Fiesole, Florence Italy. The application period opens 1 November, 2025 and closes 15 January, 2026.
This PhD programme is funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) and includes a stipend, health insurance, and a travel allowance.
Up to three incoming students will be supported for 2026/2027 academic year.
Eligibility criteria
Please note, in order to be eligible for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- An Irish national, and resident in Ireland for at least three of the last five years
Or
- A holder of dual nationality, of which one is Irish, who has been resident in Ireland for at least three of the last five years
Or
- A national of the EEA states (EU member states, Iceland, Norway & Liechtenstein) and Switzerland who has been resident in Ireland for a minimum of five years.
