European Globalisation Adjustment Fund for Displaced Workers (EGF)

The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund for Displaced Workers (EGF) helps EU member states to provide active supports for employment, education, training and guidance to workers and self-employed people who have lost their employment because of major economic changes.

The EGF co-funds supports put in place by EU member states. These supports can include occupational guidance and career planning, digital skills, and self-employment supports.

The EGF started operating in 2007.

EU member states can apply for EGF support when more than 200 job losses happen in a set period of time. The cause of the job losses can include the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and larger economic trends, like automation and changes to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

The EGF Managing Authority is responsible for managing the delivery of programmes co-financed by the EGF in Ireland. The authority also submits EGF applications and final reports on EGF-funded programmes to the European Commission.
