Minister Higgins Launches Public Survey to Improve Where Your Money Goes website

Minister of State Emer Higgins today, 8th October launched a public survey to gather feedback on WhereYourMoneyGoes.gov.ie, the official government website that shows how public money is spent across Ireland’s public services.

The launch coincides with the delivery of the annual Budget, when public interest in government spending is at its peak. The initiative is part of a broader drive to make the site more transparent, accessible and user-friendly.

Minister Of State with special responsibility for Public Procurement, Digitalisation and eGovernment, Emer Higgins encouraged the public to take part:

“We want to make it easier for people to understand how their taxes are spent. This website is designed to be clear and interactive—but it is my ambition to grow the site’s capacity as an educational tool and a resource for our people.

“That’s why we’re asking the public to tell us what works, what doesn’t and what they’d like to see included. This is your chance to shape how we communicate public spending. We’re listening—and your feedback will help us make the site better for everyone.”

The short survey, available on a yellow banner on the homepage of WhereYourMoneyGoes.gov.ie, invites users to share their views on:

  • Ease of navigation
  • Clarity of information
  • Most valued features
  • Suggestions for improvement

The feedback will directly inform updates to the site, with shorter-term updates implemented over the coming months and more substantial improvements planned for next year and beyond.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to transparency and public engagement. The site already provides detailed breakdowns of spending across departments—from health and education to transport and social protection.

The survey is open until 31 October and the public is being encouraged to visit WhereYourMoneyGoes.gov.ie, explore its functionality and then take the survey at the yellow banner at the top of the site pages.
