Does your organisation use the PPSN at present?

The Insolvency Service of Ireland makes limited use of the PPSN.

If so, for what purpose?

The Insolvency Service of Ireland use the PPSN as a unique identifier for recording and verifying personal details in relation to

  • the authorisation, supervision and regulation of Approved Intermediaries and Personal Insolvency Practitioners in accordance with the Personal Insolvency Act 2012 and associated Regulations
  • the administration of the insolvency arrangements set out in the Personal Insolvency Act 2012 and associated Regulations. This ensures that one LIVE case per applicant exists on the ISI online Application System (OAS)
  • Revenue Commissioners, which enables them to provide us with specific information if applicable

Does your organisation exchange the PPSN with any other body? If so please name the relevant bodies and the purpose(s) of the exchange?

Yes, the Courts Service for the administration of the insolvency arrangements set out in the Personal Insolvency Act 2012 and associated Regulations.

Does your organisation have any other plans involving the use of the PPSN?

None

  • respond to requests by individuals seeking to exercise their data protection rights (for example the right of access

Have you measures in place to ensure that the Public Service Identity data you hold /collect, whether held in electronic or written format is secure and that it is accessible and processed, only in connection with the purpose for which it has been provided?

Yes. The Insolvency Service of Ireland has the following safeguards in place to ensure that data protection obligations are met:

The majority of data collected will be processed and retained electronically. Technical safeguards include anti-virus protection, firewalls, password protection and restricted user access.

A limited amount of data will be retained in hard copy with access restricted to relevant members of staff.

Premises are alarmed and CCTV monitoring is in operation. Access to all internal office areas is by swipe card.

With regard to the uses to which data will be put, the Insolvency Service of Ireland will only use data for the purposes for which it was originally collected, unless otherwise required by legislation or regulation.
