Resource Efficiency Action Plan 2020/2021

The Public Sector Energy Efficiency Strategy was published by the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) in January 2017. The strategy introduced measures to support public bodies in reaching their energy efficiency targets.

The Department of Social Protection (DSP) is working with Department of Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC), the Office of Public Works (OPW), and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) on energy efficiency-related works and projects to improve energy management and share best practice.

The Government Climate Action Plan 2019 showed that it is in the national interest that environmental sustainability is a consideration in how we manage resources in the public service. The Climate Action Plan 2019 put us on a course to meet our 2020 target to improve energy efficiency by 33%. As of 2020, DSP has improved its energy efficiency by 42%, thus surpassing the 33% target.
