Waste Collection Charges

The government is ending flat rate fees for household waste collection. Only customers on a flat fee will be affected by these changes. More than half of Irish households will not be affected by these new arrangements as they are already using a system which includes a weight based or per lift charge. When your contract is due for renewal, or you move to a new collection company, your collector should no longer offer a flat fee. You will then be offered a service which includes a weight based (including a weight allowance or per lift) charge.

When householders reduce and separate their waste they lessen their impact on the environment and can manage their domestic waste costs more effectively. Household customers on a pricing plan which have a variable charge element, such as per lift or weight based charging, generate significantly less waste. The phasing out of flat rate fees will help reduce waste and prevent waste problems for current and future generations.

The Waste Collection Market in Ireland is serviced by a diverse range of private companies. The charges applied by waste management companies are a matter between those companies and their customers, subject to compliance with all applicable environmental and other relevant legislation, including contract and consumer legislation.

• per lift charge (incl weight allowance), plus per kg charge for excess weight above allowance
• service charge, plus charge per lift per bin
• service charge, plus charge per lift per bin, plus per kg excess charge
• service charge plus per kg weight charge
• service charge plus weight band charge
