€600,000 is to be provided to Údarás na Gaeltachta to deliver the Trading Online Voucher Scheme in Gaeltacht areas

The Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Senator Seán Kyne has welcomed the announcement that €600,000 is to be provided to Údarás na Gaeltachta to deliver the Trading Online Voucher Scheme in Gaeltacht areas.

Earlier today, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD and Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment, Richard Bruton TD announced a major expansion of the scheme with additional funding of €14.6m nationally.

There has been unprecedented demand for the scheme due to Covid-19 and therefore extra funding is being allocated for it. Small and micro enterprises can apply for a grant of up to €2,500 under this scheme to help to get online quickly and in Gaeltacht areas is administered by Údarás na Gaeltachta.

Welcoming this announcement, Minister of State Seán Kyne stated:

“Údarás na Gaeltachta client companies have demonstrated a particular willingness to innovate in order to survive the current pandemic and a move towards online trading is just one of the ways in which this openness to innovation has manifested itself. The additional allocation of €0.6m, to be provided by both my own Department and the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, will further enable Údarás to support Gaeltacht-based companies to make the transition to online trading in the current challenging global economic climate.”
