  • Fund will support projects with a duration of a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 4 years

The Minister of State for Migration Colm Brophy today announced €2.7m in funding for eight projects that will increase the employability of people who moved here as migrants.

The projects will help people to overcome barriers to employment including language difficulties, lack of training and social exclusion.

Funding is being provided under the Integration and Employment of Migrants Action of the Employment, Inclusion, Skills & Training (EIST) Programme 2021-2027. The Programme is jointly funded by the European Union, through the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), and the Government of Ireland.

Announcing the 8 successful projects today, Minister Brophy said:

“I am delighted to announce the list of successful groups that will receive funding through the Employment, Inclusion, Skills and Training Programme.

People who come here from different backgrounds bring with them a wealth of experience and a range of valuable skills. The projects receiving funding will help people to overcome barriers to employment such as language difficulties, lack of training or social exclusion and put their skills to good use in our workforce.”

Background

The European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) is the EU’s main tool for promoting employment and social inclusion: helping people to find employment, integrating disadvantaged people into society, and ensuring fairer life opportunities for all. The Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) is the Managing Authority for ESF+ in Ireland, and the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration (DoJ) has been designated by DFHERIS to deliver the Integration and Employment of Migrants (IEM) action funded under the Employment, Inclusion, Skills and Training (EIST) programme.

The IEM action is aimed at legally resident migrants who are experiencing barriers to participation and employment because of language difficulties, lack of training or social exclusion. The IEM action proposes to increase the levels of employability of the participants.

The specific categories of persons targeted by the IEM action are as follows:

  • EEA Nationals who are resident in Ireland; and
  • Third-Country Nationals (TCNs) with permission to enter employment in Ireland, including beneficiaries of temporary protection (BOTP) fleeing the war in Ukraine.
