Who can apply

Witnesses who were summoned and attended court to give evidence on behalf of the defence at the hearing of a case where free legal aid was granted can apply for this allowance.

What you can claim for

Witnesses can claim back for:

  • loss of wages or salary
  • subsistence
  • travel expenses

How to apply

Please download the below form and fill out Part 1. You must then give the form to the Solicitor who will give it to the District Court Clerk, the County Registrar, or Registrar. Finally, the form will be assessed by the Department of Justice. If your application is successful, you will be contacted by post.
