COVID-19 Thematic Inspections of Prisons: 3 August 2021

The Office of the Inspector of Prisons carried out the first of twelve COVID-19 Thematic Inspections in Mountjoy Men’s Prison on 1 - 4 March 2021. This inspection examined twelve assessment areas across the Five Inspectorate Focus Areas: Respect & Dignity; Safety & Security; Health & Wellbeing; Rehabilitation & Development; and Resettlement. While originally planned to take place over three days, the inspection was extended to three and half days owing to delays in being granted access to digital documents.

The Office of the Inspector of Prisons carried out the second of twelve COVID-19 Thematic Inspections in Cloverhill Prison on 18 - 19 March 2021. This inspection examined thirteen assessment areas across the Five Inspectorate Focus Areas: Respect & Dignity; Safety & Security; Health & Wellbeing; Rehabilitation & Development; and Resettlement.

The Office of the Inspector of Prisons carried out the fourth of twelve COVID-19 Thematic Inspections in Limerick Prison on 6 and 7 April 2021. At the time of inspection Ireland was under Level 5 COVID19 restrictions.1 This inspection examined twelve assessment areas across the five Inspectorate Focus Areas: Respect & Dignity; Safety & Security; Health & Wellbeing; Rehabilitation & Development; and Resettlement.
